Fried rice

Fried rice is a popular dish made by stir-frying Rice with vegetables, protein, and seasonings. It’s quick, versatile, and widely eaten across Asia and beyond. 🍚


Key Ingredients

  • Cooked rice (preferably cold or day-old for best texture)
  • Vegetables: carrots, peas, bell peppers, onions, corn
  • Protein: eggs, chicken, shrimp, pork, or tofu
  • Soy sauce, garlic, and ginger for flavor
  • Optional: green onions, sesame oil, or chili

Basic Recipe

  1. Prepare ingredients – chop vegetables and protein; beat eggs if using.
  2. Cook eggs – scramble in a hot pan or wok, then set aside.
  3. SautΓ© aromatics – cook garlic and ginger briefly in oil.
  4. Add protein & vegetables – stir-fry until cooked.
  5. Add rice – break up clumps and stir-fry with soy sauce and seasonings.
  6. Combine – return eggs to the pan and mix everything well.
  7. Serve hot – garnish with green onions or sesame seeds.

Tips for Perfect Fried Rice

  • Use day-old rice; freshly cooked rice is too soft and sticky.
  • High heat helps to fry quickly without steaming the ingredients.
  • Add soy sauce or oyster sauce gradually to avoid sogginess.

Variations

  • Vegetable fried rice – omit meat for a vegetarian version
  • Yangzhou fried rice – classic Chinese style with shrimp, pork, and eggs
  • Kimchi fried rice – Korean twist with kimchi and gochujang
