Baked potato is a whole potato cooked in the oven until the skin is crisp and the inside is soft and fluffy. It’s a versatile dish that can be served as a side or main course. 🥔


Key Features

  • Skin: Crisp and slightly salty
  • Flesh: Soft, fluffy, and starchy
  • Size: Medium to large potatoes work best (Russet potatoes are ideal)

Basic Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Wash and scrub potatoes; optionally prick with a fork to allow steam to escape.
  3. Rub the skin with oil and a pinch of salt for crispiness.
  4. Bake directly on the oven rack for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until tender.
  5. Serve with toppings like butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon bits, or chili.

Variations

  • Twice-baked potatoes: Scoop out the flesh, mix with cheese and sour cream, then bake again.
  • Loaded baked potato: Topped with bacon, cheese, sour cream, and green onions.
  • Herb-baked: Sprinkle with rosemary, thyme, or garlic for extra flavor.
