Classic American Pancakes 🥞

Light, fluffy American pancakes are thicker than crepes and perfect for breakfast with butter and syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (plus extra for cooking)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients
    In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Mix wet ingredients
    In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
  3. Combine
    Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. A few small lumps are okay.
  4. Cook
    Heat a lightly buttered skillet or pan over medium heat.
    Pour about 1/4 cup batter for each pancake.
  5. Flip
    Cook until bubbles form on the surface (about 2 minutes), then flip and cook another 1–2 minutes until golden.

Serving ideas

  • Butter and maple syrup 🍁
  • Fresh berries and whipped cream 🍓
  • Peanut butter and banana 🍌
  • Chocolate chips or honey 🍯

✅ Tip: Let the batter rest 5–10 minutes before cooking. This makes pancakes extra fluffy.
