Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for a classic Crumb Cake — soft, tender cake with a buttery, sweet crumb topping:


Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk

For the Crumb Topping

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the crumb topping:
    • Mix sugars, cinnamon, flour, and butter in a bowl until crumbly. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the cake batter:
    • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
    • In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, mixing until smooth.
  4. Assemble:
    • Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.
    • Sprinkle crumb topping generously over the batter.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Let cool slightly before slicing.
