Strawberries in salt water

Posted on March 10, 2026 by Admin

Putting strawberries in salt water is a common trick to clean them and remove tiny bugs or dirt that might be hiding inside the fruit.

🍓 Why People Use Salt Water

  • Salt helps draw out small insects or larvae that sometimes live in strawberries.
  • It also helps loosen dirt, pesticides, and debris from the surface.

🥣 How to Do It

  1. Fill a bowl with 1 cup warm water.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir until dissolved.
  3. Put the strawberries in the bowl.
  4. Let them soak for 5–10 minutes.
  5. You may see tiny white worms or debris come out (this can happen naturally in fruit).
  6. Rinse the strawberries well with clean water before eating.

⚠️ Important Tips

  • Don’t soak for too long, or strawberries can become soft and salty.
  • Always rinse after soaking to remove the salt taste.
  • Do this right before eating, because wet strawberries spoil faster.

✅ Some people also use vinegar water (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water) instead of salt to help kill bacteria.
