Steak with Caramelized Onions

Posted on March 7, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple yet delicious way to make Steak with Caramelized Onions:

Ingredients:

  • Steak (ribeye, sirloin, or your favorite cut) – 2 pieces, about 8 oz each
  • Onions – 2 large, thinly sliced
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt & pepper – to taste
  • Garlic – 2 cloves, minced (optional)
  • Balsamic vinegar – 1 tsp (optional, for extra depth)

Instructions:

1. Caramelize the Onions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Add butter and olive oil.
  2. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt.
  3. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 25–30 minutes until onions are golden brown and sweet.
  4. If using, stir in garlic in the last 2 minutes, and balsamic vinegar for richness.

2. Cook the Steak:

  1. Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat a separate skillet over high heat until very hot. Add a little oil.
  3. Sear the steaks for 3–5 minutes per side (depending on thickness and desired doneness).
  4. Let steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing to retain juices.

3. Serve:

  • Place the steak on a plate and top with the caramelized onions.
  • Optional: garnish with fresh thyme or parsley for extra flavor.

Tips:

  • Pat the steak dry before searing to get a better crust.
  • Slow cooking the onions is key — don’t rush, or they won’t get that deep caramel flavor.

If you want, I can also give you a quick version that’s under 20 minutes that still tastes amazing. Do you want me to do that?
