🍳 Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

  • 3–4 firm green tomatoes, sliced ½ inch thick
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornmeal (or breadcrumbs for a different texture)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional for flavor)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tomatoes
    • Wash and slice green tomatoes into thick rounds.
    • Pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Set Up Dredging Station
    • Bowl 1: Mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Bowl 2: Beat egg with milk.
    • Bowl 3: Place cornmeal (or breadcrumbs).
  3. Coat the Tomatoes
    • Dip each tomato slice first in flour, then in egg mixture, then in cornmeal, pressing lightly so coating sticks.
  4. Fry
    • Heat ¼ inch oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Fry tomato slices for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain & Serve
    • Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels.
    • Serve hot with ranch dressing, remoulade, or spicy mayo.

🌟 Tips

  • Use firm green tomatoes — slightly underripe tomatoes are best for structure.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet; fry in batches to maintain crispiness.
  • For extra crunch, you can double-dip with egg and cornmeal.
