Ingredients

For the crust

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp cold water

For the filling

  • 6–8 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the crust: Combine flour and salt, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add cold water gradually until dough forms. Chill 1 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F / 220°C.
  3. Roll out half the dough and place in a 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Mix apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour into crust.
  5. Roll out the second half of the dough for the top crust. Cover apples and crimp edges. Cut slits for steam to escape.
  6. Optional: brush top with egg wash for a golden finish.
  7. Bake 45–50 minutes, until crust is golden and filling bubbly. Cool slightly before serving.
