๐Ÿฉบ Blood Pressure Measurement

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. Measuring it helps detect conditions like Hypertension and monitor heart health.

๐Ÿ“Š Two Numbers in a Blood Pressure Reading

A reading is written like 120/80 mmHg.

  1. Systolic pressure (top number)
    • Pressure when the heart contracts and pumps blood.
  2. Diastolic pressure (bottom number)
    • Pressure when the heart rests between beats.

๐Ÿงช How Blood Pressure Is Measured

Usually with a device called a Sphygmomanometer.

Steps:

  1. Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring.
  2. Place the cuff around the upper arm, at heart level.
  3. Keep your feet flat on the floor and back supported.
  4. Start the monitor and stay still while it measures.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Normal Blood Pressure Ranges

Category Reading
Normal Less than 120/80 mmHg
Elevated 120โ€“129 / <80
High (Stage 1) 130โ€“139 / 80โ€“89
High (Stage 2) 140/90 or higher

โš ๏ธ Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Avoid caffeine, smoking, or exercise 30 minutes before measuring.
  • Do not talk during the measurement.
  • Measure at the same time each day if monitoring regularly.

โœ… Why it matters:
Regular blood pressure checks help prevent heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.
