What is this old iron tool with jagged teeth

Posted on February 28, 2026 by Admin

An old iron tool with jagged teeth could be several different things depending on its size and shape. Here are the most common possibilities:

1️⃣ Hay / Manure Rake Head

If it looks like a wide bar with evenly spaced long teeth, it may be an old farm rake head used for hay or manure.

2️⃣ Saw Blade (Hand Saw or Pit Saw)

If it’s long and flat with sharp triangular teeth along one edge, it could be part of an old wood-cutting saw.

3️⃣ Sickle Bar (Farm Equipment)

If it has triangular, knife-like teeth riveted along a metal bar, it may be part of a mower or reaper attachment used in farming.

4️⃣ Curry Comb

If it’s smaller and handheld with short jagged teeth, it could be a livestock grooming tool used on horses or cattle.

5️⃣ Harrow Section

If it’s heavy, square, and has thick downward spikes, it might be part of a drag harrow used to break up soil.

If you can tell me:

  • Rough size (length & width)
  • Are the teeth sharp or blunt?
  • Is there a handle or mounting holes?
  • Where it was found (barn, field, toolbox, etc.)

I can narrow it down much more precisely.
