🍔 Mushroom & Swiss Burger Foil Packet

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • ½ small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns

Optional toppings:

  • Dijon mustard
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the patties

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Form into 4 equal patties (slightly wider than your buns).

2️⃣ Prep the foil packets

  • Tear 4 large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • Lightly grease each sheet.
  • Place one patty in the center of each.
  • Top with mushrooms and onions.
  • Add a small pat of butter or drizzle olive oil over veggies.

3️⃣ Seal tightly

  • Fold foil over and crimp edges to seal completely (keep some space inside for steam).

4️⃣ Cook

  • Grill: Medium heat (400°F) for 15–18 minutes.
  • Oven: 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes.
  • Campfire: Place on hot coals for about 15–20 minutes.

(Internal temp should reach 160°F / 71°C.)

5️⃣ Add cheese

  • Carefully open foil (watch steam).
  • Place Swiss cheese on each patty.
  • Reseal loosely and cook 1–2 more minutes until melted.

6️⃣ Serve

  • Place on toasted buns with your favorite toppings.

  • Add a splash of beef broth inside the packet for extra juiciness.
  • For a richer flavor, sauté mushrooms in butter first.
  • Want it low-carb? Skip the bun and serve over lettuce or cauliflower mash.
