Apple pie 🥧💛 — timeless, cozy, no notes.
Here’s a classic homemade apple pie that never lets you down, plus a couple of smart tips so it comes out chef’s kiss.

Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)
  • 6–7 apples (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp is elite)
  • ¾ cup sugar (mix white + brown if you like depth)
  • 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional but nice)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp butter (dotting the filling)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F / 220°C.
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples.
  3. Toss apples with sugar, flour, spices, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt.
  4. Line pie dish with bottom crust, fill with apples, dot with butter.
  5. Cover with top crust (lattice if you’re feeling fancy). Cut vents.
  6. Brush with egg wash; sprinkle a little sugar.
  7. Bake 20 minutes, then lower to 375°F / 190°C and bake another 35–45 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  8. Cool at least 1–2 hours before slicing (hardest step).

Pro tips

  • Mix apple types → better flavor + texture
  • Thin slices = even cooking
  • If edges brown too fast, cover with foil
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or sharp cheddar (controversial but correct)

Want a Dutch crumb topping, no-crust skillet version, or air-fryer apple pie vibes? 😌
