🌮 Ground Beef Taco Meat

Ingredients (for 4 servings / ~1 lb beef):

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • â…“ cup water or beef broth
  • Optional: 1 tbsp tomato paste or salsa for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Cook aromatics:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add onion and garlic, sauté 2–3 minutes until softened.
  2. Brown the beef:
    • Add ground beef. Cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon.
    • Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Season:
    • Add chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper.
    • Stir to coat the meat evenly.
  4. Simmer:
    • Add water (or broth) and optional tomato paste/salsa.
    • Reduce heat and simmer 5–7 minutes until most liquid evaporates and meat is saucy but not soupy.
  5. Serve:
    • Use in tacos, burritos, nachos, taco salads, or even stuffed peppers.

Tips & Variations:

  • Cheesy beef: Stir in ½ cup shredded cheese at the end.
  • Spicy kick: Add chipotle in adobo or cayenne powder.
  • Make ahead: Keeps in the fridge for 3–4 days, freezes well for up to 3 months.
