Baked lobster tails with garlic butter

Posted on October 31, 2025 by Admin
Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter—such a luxurious yet simple dish! It’s the perfect way to enjoy tender, flavorful lobster without having to go to a restaurant. The garlic butter adds richness and depth, while baking ensures the lobster meat stays juicy and perfectly cooked. Here’s a straightforward and delicious recipe for making baked lobster tails at home:

Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter

Ingredients:

  • 4 lobster tails (about 6–8 oz each)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (fresh is best)

  • 1 tsp lemon zest (optional, for extra citrus flavor)

  • 1 tsp paprika (optional, for color and a subtle smoky flavor)

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt (or to taste)

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1–2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Lobster Tails:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Using a sharp pair of kitchen scissors or a heavy knife, carefully cut the top of the lobster shells lengthwise down the center (where the hard shell is). Be careful not to cut all the way through the lobster meat.

    • Gently pry open the shells and use your fingers to lift the lobster meat out, leaving the tail end of the shell attached. Rest the lobster meat on top of the shell, slightly elevated.

    • Rinse the lobster tails under cold water to remove any residual shell fragments. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. Make the Garlic Butter:

    • In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. Brush the Lobster with Butter:

    • Place the prepared lobster tails on a baking sheet or in a shallow baking dish.

    • Brush the lobster meat generously with the garlic butter mixture, making sure to coat the meat well.

  4. Bake the Lobster Tails:

    • Bake the lobster tails in the preheated oven for about 12–15 minutes, depending on the size of the lobster tails. The lobster meat should be opaque and firm to the touch, and the internal temperature should reach about 140°F (60°C).

    • Halfway through baking, you can brush the lobster tails with more of the garlic butter for extra flavor.

  5. Garnish and Serve:

    • Once the lobster tails are done, remove them from the oven and give them a final drizzle of the garlic butter sauce.

    • Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the lobster.

Pro Tips:

  • Check for doneness: The lobster will continue to cook slightly once removed from the oven, so be careful not to overcook it. Overcooked lobster will be tough and rubbery.

  • Grilled option: If you prefer a smoky flavor, you can also grill the lobster tails over medium heat. Just brush them with the garlic butter and cook for about 5–7 minutes, depending on size.

  • Flavor variations: You can add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the garlic butter for a little heat, or even a dash of white wine for depth.

💡 Side suggestions: These baked lobster tails pair beautifully with sides like garlic mashed potatoes, buttery asparagus, or a fresh green salad. Serve with some crusty bread to soak up that garlic butter sauce!

This dish is perfect for a romantic dinner, a special occasion, or whenever you want to indulge in something truly delicious. How do you like your lobster prepared—do you prefer a classic butter sauce like this, or do you like to get creative with your seasonings?
