Here’s a classic, comforting Congee (rice porridge) soup—simple, soothing, and easy to customize 🍲


Basic Congee Recipe (serves 2–4)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup jasmine rice (or any short/medium-grain rice)
  • 8–10 cups water or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)

Optional Flavor Base

  • 2–3 slices fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, lightly smashed

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice
    Rinse until the water runs mostly clear.
  2. Cook
    Add rice, liquid, ginger, and garlic to a pot.
    Bring to a boil, then lower to a gentle simmer.
  3. Simmer slowly
    Cook uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice breaks down and becomes creamy.
  4. Adjust consistency
    Add more water or broth if you want it thinner.
  5. Season
    Remove ginger/garlic. Season with salt.

  • Simmer 20 minutes, stir often
