Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for cheese buns—soft, cheesy, and perfect as a snack or breakfast treat:

Ingredients (makes 8–10 buns)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a bowl, mix warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
    • Add flour, salt, and butter. Knead until a soft, smooth dough forms (about 8–10 minutes by hand, or 5–6 minutes in a mixer).
  2. First rise:
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the buns:
    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 8–10 equal portions.
    • Flatten each portion, place a small handful of shredded cheese in the center, and fold the dough over to seal. Shape into buns.
  4. Second rise:
    • Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes.
  5. Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Brush buns with beaten egg (optional, for a shiny top).
    • Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Enjoy warm! Perfect with tea, coffee, or as a cheesy snack.

💡 Tips:

  • Add herbs like oregano or garlic powder to the dough for extra flavor.
  • For super cheesy buns, mix some cheese into the dough itself, not just the filling.

If you want, I can also give you a quick stovetop version of cheese buns that doesn’t require waiting for yeast to rise. That one is perfect when you’re short on time. Do you want me to share that?
