Posted on January 6, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a delicious recipe for Hungarian Bacon Scones — savory, flaky, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack 🥓🥐

🥓 Hungarian Bacon Scones (Sós Scones with Bacon)

🛒 Ingredients (makes 8–10 scones)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, chopped (about 6–8 slices)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional — Emmentaler, cheddar, or a Hungarian cheese like Trappista)
  • ¾ cup milk (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 egg

🔪 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
    • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cut in butter
    • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix butter into flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add bacon and cheese
    • Stir in chopped bacon and shredded cheese.
  5. Add wet ingredients
    • In a small bowl, whisk together milk and egg.
    • Pour into dry ingredients and gently mix until dough just comes together. Don’t overmix.
  6. Shape scones
    • Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into 8–10 wedges (like a pizza) or use a biscuit cutter.
  7. Bake
    • Place on baking sheet. Brush tops lightly with milk.
    • Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Serve warm
    • Perfect with butter, jam, or extra cheese.

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Extra flavor: Add 1 tsp paprika or caraway seeds for a traditional Hungarian touch
  • Cheese variations: Hungarian Trappista, Gouda, or aged cheddar work great
  • Add herbs: Chives, parsley, or dill mix well with bacon
  • Make-ahead: Dough can be refrigerated for a few hours before baking

If you want, I can also give you a mini bite-size version that’s perfect for parties or brunch buffets — easy to grab and very snackable.

Do you want me to do that?
