Hershey’s Hot Fudge Topping

Posted on January 5, 2026 by Admin

Here’s how to make a homemade version of Hershey’s Hot Fudge Topping 🍫 — rich, smooth, and perfect for ice cream, brownies, or sundaes.

Homemade Hot Fudge Topping

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients
In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  2. Add cream & butter
Stir in heavy cream and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  3. Simmer & thicken
Reduce heat to low and simmer 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly. The mixture will thicken slightly.
  4. Finish
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Serve
Serve warm over ice cream, cake, or fruit.
Store leftover in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Reheat gently before using.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra chocolatey: Add 2 oz chopped semi-sweet chocolate while simmering
  • Creamier fudge: Use ¾ cup cream instead of ½ cup for a thicker sauce
  • Peanut butter twist: Stir in 2 tbsp peanut butter after removing from heat
  • Make-ahead: Can be made days in advance and reheated

If you want, I can also make a microwave 5-minute version that’s almost identical to the Hershey’s version but super quick and easy 😄.

Do you want me to do that?
