Chow mein

Posted on January 3, 2026 by Admin

Chow mein is a popular Chinese-style noodle dish. The name means “stir-fried noodles,” and it usually includes noodles tossed with vegetables, sauce, and sometimes protein.

What’s usually in chow mein

  • Noodles: Egg noodles or wheat noodles
  • Veggies: Cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, onions, bean sprouts
  • Protein (optional): Chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu
  • Sauce: Soy sauce, garlic, a little oil (sometimes oyster sauce)

Simple chow mein (easy version)

  1. Cook noodles according to the package, then drain.
  2. Stir-fry veggies in a pan with a little oil and garlic.
  3. Add protein (if using) and cook until done.
  4. Toss in noodles and splash in soy sauce (and a bit of water if dry).
  5. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes and serve hot.

If you want, I can:

  • Share a specific recipe (veg, chicken, or street-style)
  • Explain the difference between chow mein vs. lo mein
  • Help you make it with ingredients you already have 🍜
