Here’s a classic Grandma-style mashed potatoes recipe—simple, creamy, and made with love 🥔💛

Grandma’s Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • ½–¾ cup whole milk (or half-and-half)
  • ½ cup butter (real butter, not margarine)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional add-ins: a spoonful of sour cream, cream cheese, or a pinch of garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes in a large pot of salted water until fork-tender (15–20 minutes).
  2. Drain well and return potatoes to the hot pot. Let them steam for 1–2 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  3. Warm milk and butter together (microwave or saucepan).
  4. Mash potatoes using a hand masher (no blender—grandma style!).
  5. Slowly add warm milk and butter, mashing until creamy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Stir in any optional add-ins if desired.

Grandma Tips

  • Don’t overmix—lumpy is cozy, not wrong.
  • Taste before serving; potatoes need more salt than you think.
  • Finish with a pat of butter melting on top.
