Ingredients
For the crust and topping:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- ½ cup sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat oven: 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Make the crust:
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
- Stir in flour and salt until crumbly.
- Press about 2/3 of the mixture firmly into the bottom of the pan.
- Add the filling: Spread cherry pie filling evenly over the crust. Stir in vanilla (and almond extract if using).
- Top: Crumble the remaining 1/3 of the dough over the cherries.
