Here’s a delicious, tangy-sweet Cranberry & Balsamic Onion Marmalade—perfect for topping meats, cheese, or sandwiches 🍽️


🍇🧅 Cranberry & Balsamic Onion Marmalade

Ingredients (makes ~2 cups)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium red onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or maple syrup)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a slight kick

Instructions

  1. Cook the onions
    • Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat.
    • Add onions and cook 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent.
  2. Add garlic & cranberries
    • Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute.
    • Add cranberries, balsamic vinegar, and brown sugar.
  3. Simmer
    • Reduce heat to low and simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries pop and mixture thickens.
  4. Season & cool
    • Add salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
    • Let cool to room temperature.
  5. Store & serve
    • Transfer to a jar. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
    • Serve with roasted meats, grilled cheese, or crackers and cheese.

💡 Tips

  • For extra depth, add a splash of port wine or orange juice while simmering.
  • Can be blended for a smoother texture if desired.
  • Works beautifully as a holiday appetizer topping with brie or goat cheese.
