Crock Pot Cube Steak

Posted on December 21, 2025 by Admin

Absolutely! Crock Pot (slow cooker) cube steak comes out super tender because the slow cooking breaks down the tough meat. Here’s a simple, classic recipe:

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 4 cube steaks (about 1 lb / 450 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for dredging, optional)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of onion)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (if browning steaks first)

Instructions

  1. Optional – Brown the cube steaks:
    • Season steaks with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    • Lightly dredge in flour.
    • Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear steaks 2–3 minutes per side until golden. This step adds flavor but can be skipped.
  2. Layer in the Crock Pot:
    • Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
    • Lay the cube steaks on top.
  3. Add sauce:
    • Mix cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Pour over the steaks.
  4. Cook:
    • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until the cube steak is fork-tender.
  5. Serve:
    • Spoon the gravy over the cube steaks.
    • Great served with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

💡 Tips:

  • Browning the steaks first isn’t required but gives extra flavor.
  • If the gravy is too thin at the end, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir in, cooking on high for 15–20 minutes until thickened.
  • You can add carrots or mushrooms for more veggie flavor.

If you want, I can give a simpler 3-ingredient version that’s basically dump-and-go, perfect for busy nights. It’s surprisingly tasty. Do you want me to share that?
