Here’s a classic Chipped Beef Dip recipe—rich, creamy, and perfect as a hearty appetizer or sandwich filling.


Chipped Beef Dip

Servings: 4–6

Ingredients

  • 8 oz dried beef (chipped beef), sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for depth)
  • 4–6 hoagie rolls, toasted (or crackers for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare beef
    • Rinse dried beef under cold water to remove excess salt. Pat dry and slice into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Make the roux
    • In a medium skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden.
  3. Add milk
    • Gradually whisk in milk, ensuring no lumps form.
    • Cook until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add beef & seasonings
    • Stir in chopped beef, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
    • Simmer 2–3 minutes until beef is heated and sauce is creamy.
  5. Serve
    • Spoon warm dip onto toasted hoagie rolls for sandwiches or serve with crackers as a dip.

  • Saltiness: Chipped beef is salty, so taste before adding extra salt.
  • Extra creamy: Stir in a little shredded cheddar or cream cheese for a richer dip.
